Three Conversations That Defined Our GlassBuild 2026

GlassBuild 2026 - Windowmaker

Three days in Las Vegas. More than 9,600 industry professionals and over 500 exhibitors under one roof (glassonweb.com). GlassBuild America 2026 was busy, and the conversations at the Windowmaker booth were some of the most focused we’ve had.

Visitors came prepared. They knew where they wanted their business to go, and they wanted to know how to get there faster. Manufacturers and dealers alike kept coming back to the same three themes.

1. One Platform, Two Partners: Empowering the Manufacturer-Dealer Relationship

This one came from both sides of the counter. Manufacturers, and the dealers who sell their windows and doors, told us they want the same thing: one clear, shared view of pricing, products and orders.

Pricing is where it matters most. Manufacturers often set separate pricing for different dealers, and dealers then set their own selling prices for their customers. Keeping every one of those levels accurate and current, with each party seeing only the numbers meant for them, is hard when it lives in price lists and spreadsheets passed back and forth.

Order visibility is the other half. When a dealer can check where an order stands, and the manufacturer can see what’s coming through from its dealer network, fewer calls are needed and both sides can plan with confidence.

Nobody was describing a broken relationship. They were describing a partnership that works better when everyone works from the same up-to-date information, with each party’s pricing kept exactly where it belongs.

2. Eliminating Errors Between the Showroom and the Shop Floor

A quote is accepted. It gets retyped into an order, then retyped again into cutting lists. Somewhere along the way a dimension changes, an option disappears, or a revision never reaches the shop floor.

Nobody notices until the saw, the assembly table or the job site. By then it’s a remake, wasted material, a second delivery and a customer who trusts you a little less.

The rule is simple: type the same information twice and, sooner or later, it gets typed wrong. The fix isn’t more checking. It’s one set of order data that flows from the sale to production without being re-entered.

3. Replacing Guesswork with Systemized Product and Pricing Rules

Every strong manufacturer has them: the experienced people who know which options go together, how a special shape gets priced and exactly what the shop floor needs. Their knowledge is one of the most valuable assets in the business. What visitors wanted to know was how to protect it, because when it sits only in someone’s head, work slows when they’re away and stalls when they move on.

It makes hiring harder too. New starters take months to get productive, because the knowledge was never written down. It’s handed over one question at a time.

Put the product rules, pricing logic and production steps into the system, and new hires learn the system. The business stops depending on a few people to keep running.

Why it matters more now

None of this is new. What’s new is the cost.

The show’s economic keynote from Connor Lokar set the tone: the US economy is still growing but slowing into 2027, and growth will have to come from how well a business runs (GlassBuild America). US Glass Magazine heard the same on the floor: plenty of interest, more cautious buying (US Glass Magazine).

When orders are plentiful, you can absorb a wrong price or a remade frame. When buyers hesitate, every one comes straight off the margin. That’s why visitors weren’t asking whether to fix these problems. They were asking how fast.

Three questions worth asking

  • Do you and your dealers work from the same, current pricing and order information?
  • How many times is an order typed in between the sale and the shop floor?
  • What happens to your process if your most experienced person leaves tomorrow?

Windowmaker Software has spent more than 43 years building software for window and door manufacturers. It’s an end-to-end platform covering sales, manufacturing, delivery, installation and service, so the information captured when an order is won is the same information that reaches the shop floor and the installer.

If any of those questions hit close to home, let’s talk.
